GoodDrive, The First Connected Car Insurance In Luxembourg

Bâloise Assurances Luxembourg S.A. ushers in the era of connected car insurance in the Grand Duchy. The company is innovating in the car insurance market with the launch of GoodDrive, the very first telematics-based car insurance solution, also known as connected car insurance.
The better you drive, the less you pay

The idea is simple. Young drivers – licence holders for less than 8 years  who drive sensibly can make huge savings – up to 30%  on their car insurance.

The key question for an insurance company is how to evaluate the risk represented by young customers, without any no-claims bonus history or much driving experience, who have more accidents than drivers in other age categories.
How? Thanks to Telematics.

Telematics involves measuring the quality of a person’s driving – speed, use of the vehicle, insured risk and driving style  in real time and cutting the cost of insurance for young, sensible drivers. First developed in the USA by the most innovative large insurers and now available in all the major countries with mature digital businesses, telematics therefore means good drivers can save money and stop paying for bad drivers!

The measurements will be made by an app and may be evaluated in the future by a dongle, a small device plugged into the car’s diagnostic port.

GoodDrive also enables young drivers to improve all the time by giving them personalized driving tips, games and challenges that allow them to continually develop their driving skills.

« The key question for an insurance company is how to evaluate the risk represented by young customers, without any no-claims bonus history or much driving experience, who have more accidents than drivers in other age categories. The number of personal injuries is rising all the time (+8% in 2015) and, unfortunately, young people aged 15 to 24 account for more than their share and are all too often involved in serious and fatal collisions », explains Laurent Heiles, Member of the Board of Directors.

Most companies respond with caution, by offering high prices for all. Bâloise, however, has decided to be fair to young people who drive conscientiously and carefully. Thanks to telematics, Bâloise is now in a position to offer young drivers substantial reductions: up to 30% off, but only for those who drive well!

GoodDrive also enables young drivers to improve all the time by giving them personalized driving tips, games and challenges that allow them to continually develop their driving skills. GoodDrive follows on from the experience of Game of Roads 1 and 2, the gaming app that, thanks to promo games and driving tips, has helped more than 10,000 young people become better drivers since 2015, and supported them as they have racked up more than 4 million kilometers. But this time, with GoodDrive, Bâloise is rewarding good drivers with up to 30% off their car insurance.

#WomenFounders: In Conversation With Marie Guerre

Marie Guerre, Founder and Managing Partner of The Car’tell, a private members club for car lovers, delivered a great speech during the first edition of the Women Founders conference and is sharing a few more pieces of advice in this interview.
(Featured Image: Marie Guerre, The Car’tell, during the Women Founders conference / Image Credit: Marion Dessard)
What is your startup/organisation about?

My partner and I created a private members club for car lovers. The club is about sharing experiences and creating memories. The club is the owner of the cars, and our members get to drive the cars in exchange of points. The points are associated to an annual membership. The club, is not only about cars, we organize wine tasting, art exhibitions, networking events among other activities. It is truly an epicurean club.

“To me an entrepreneur as no gender. It is a person who is convinced that he/she can give to the world something that they need.” – Marie Guerre
What is your day-to-day?

My day-to-day consists of organising the future events, cleaning the cars, checking the cars before they leave with a member, paying the invoices, and last but not least taking care of my members when they are in the clubhouse.

What does it take to be a women entrepreneur?

To me an entrepreneur as no gender. It is a person who is convinced that he/she can give to the world something that they need. The pros are that all successes are yours, but on the other side all errors and mistakes are also yours. An entrepreneur should be able to balance all the emotions that one can have in a day in a minute.

What are your pieces of advice to women/girls who would like to turn their idea into a business?

Ideas are important, but the execution is what will make your idea a success or a failure. Your business will become you and you will become the business. You have to know that a founder will have to take decisions every minutes. If taking decisions in not your cup of tea, you may want to wait to create your business.

3 words to describe your journey so far?

Fulfilled, happy, stressed!

Launch of Wellbeing Booking Platform Salonkee

$

Book an appointment 24/7 with a hairdresser, barber or masseur. Wellbeing booking platform Salonkee is officially launching its services in Luxembourg. We asked Gilberto Fernandes to tell us more about the startup.
(Featured Image, from left to right: Salonkee’s team, Gilberto Fernandes, Tom Michels, Samuel Faber, Alex Claro and André Stehle / Image Credit: Salonkee)
What is Salonkee?

Tired of spending hours looking for that very special beauty salon, the best haircut or the fanciest barber? Salonkee got you covered: user-friendly, fast, few-clicks reservation and the ability to search for the service or salon you actually need right when you need them! 24/7 booking right in the palm of your hands – simple, fast and secure.

On the user side, Salonkee brings the simplicity and joy of online beauty-appointment bookings to the tip of the users’ fingers. Salonkee intends to foster the time gaining, easy and secure possibility of our all-digital era to give the user more time to focus on the important things in life: personal beauty being one of them.

On the salon side, it is important to point out that Salonkee was created in close collaboration with the professionals of the beauty sector. Salonkee is therefore the first and most complete online salon-management software in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Salonkee will cover the salon’s most desired needs and stay, and at the same time, a user-friendly platform which will support them in growing their business.

How did you come up with the idea?

Making a phone call to book an appointment is today cumbersome, time consuming and rather restricted due to the opening hours of the salons. From the very beginning, we thought that salons and users should have a better way to manage their appointments. Flexible, fast, secure and easy to use. Salonkee was born.

Our mission is clear: Our clients deserve a personal approach and a state-of-the-art service. It is trough an unequaled and exceptional customer relation that we achieve to build solid and long-lasting partnerships – two vital conditions for a healthy business development.
What is your business model?

The user can use Salonkee’s platform and book an appointment for free. He would have to pay the service on site. On the partner side, Salonkee is offering a Software as a Service solution with a subscription-based service. The pricing depends on the number of employees for each salon.

Who are your competitors?

As far from now, no one is providing the same service in Luxembourg as Salonkee does, namely real-time booking platform for the beauty sector.

What is your strategy (short term, medium term)?

On a short term perspective, we are aiming to establish the startup as the go to platform for any online reservations in the beauty and well-being sector in Luxembourg.

On a medium term, we are planning to expand our services abroad most likely with the help of investors and strategic partnerships with other players from the beauty sector.

Travel Technology startup Travelsify closes a seed funding round and gets the support from the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy to power next-generation hotel search and personalization.
(Featured Image: Dr Alexander Weber, Alexandra Fernandez Ramos, and Bruno Chauvat / Image Credit: Travelsify)

Travelsify, the world’s first Hotel DNA content platform, today announced it has raised €2 million in seed funding led by Luxembourg-based business angels, and with the support of the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy.

“We are incredibly proud to have achieved so much in such a short time. This substantial first funding round not only validates Travelsify’s competitive edge in the travel technology industry but also backs up our global growth strategy. We are happy and grateful for the support we received and keep on receiving from Luxembourg sophisticated investors.” Bruno Chauvat, CEO at Travelsify

The investment will allow the company to accelerate the development of its highly qualitative Hotel DNA content platform already covering about 300,000 hotels worldwide, expand its team of experts in Luxembourg, and foster its global growth through new clients in Europe and overseas.

Founded in Spring 2016, the privately held company is based in Luxembourg and is led by 3 seasoned technology, big data and personalization entrepreneurs: Bruno Chauvat, Alexandra Fernandez Ramos, and Dr Alexander Weber. Travelsify now employs 15 people in Luxembourg from 7 different countries, including several PhD graduates and linguistic experts.

“Luxinnovation is thrilled to support Travelsify as innovative and technology-driven startup, especially in its early stage of development. Having a Luxembourg-based startup launching global activities is an asset for the country and its startup ecosystem.” – Antoine Hron, Head of Start-up Development at Luxinnovation

In less than one year, Travelsify gained the trust of AccorHotels, a world-leading travel and lifestyle group, to inspire, search and personalize according to local and cultural experiences thanks to its geo-targeted Travelsify Hotel DNA™.

Last November, the Travel Tech company has been selected as “Market Changing Innovator” by Phocuswright, the global travel industry research authority, and has been invited to showcase at the Travel Innovation Summit in Los Angeles, (California, USA).

Since its inception, the company has been supported by nyuko – the startup accelerator, Luxinnovation – the national agency for innovation and research, and the Ministry of the Economy in Luxembourg.

“At nyuko we believe successful disruptive ideas are led by great teams of entrepreneurs. We are delighted to count Travelsify and its highly complementary and experienced founding team amongst the startups we helped in seed funding”– Martin Guérin, Chief Executive Officer at nyuko.

#WomenFounders: In Conversation With Alexandra Fernandez Ramos

Alexandra Fernández Ramos, Travelsify‘s Chief Product and Sales Officer, a travel technology startup offering the world’s first Hotel DNA content platform (read more: Travelsify Raises €2 Million), delivered a great speech during the first edition of the Women Founders conference and is sharing a few more pieces of advice in this interview.
(Featured Image: Alexandra Fernández Ramos, Travelsify’s Chief Product and Sales Officer, during the Women Founders conference / Image Credit: Marion Dessard)
What is your startup/organisation about?

Hotels are about experiences, not products anymore. And every hotel delivers a unique experience. Today, online booking platforms and hotel groups still rely on old-fashioned amenities to describe hotels: free WiFi, parking, room service, etc. while travellers are sharing experiences, writing reviews talking about “cosy atmospheres”, “shabby-chic decoration” or “spectacular views”. If travelers are talking about these concepts, it is because it matters to them.

That is why we have created the Travelsify Hotel DNA reflecting the true experiences of travelers, for every hotel in the world (300,000 hotels covered to date.)

By analyzing over 100 million natural language hotel reviews, we extracted more than 34 key Hotel DNA attributes that matter to travelers when booking hotels: cosy, spacious, stylish, bright, gourmet, views, vintage, classic, zen, nightlife, luxury, design, etc.
Travelsify provides booking platforms and hotel groups with unprecedented insights on hotel experiences so that travelers can reliably search and compare hotels worldwide to find the experience they want.

What is your day-to-day?

I have a 3-in-one role: as a co-Founder + Chief of Product + Sales Officer, so I have a great variety of interesting issues to tackle every day. Every day is different which is a great motivation to me. I structure my work on weekly objectives to keep a good pace of achievements. “Work hard and stay humble” is one of my key mottos. Because we must question ourselves every day in order to create value and innovate.

What does it take to be a women entrepreneur?

Building a startup is a highly challenging way of living. The road to transform an idea into a company and eventually into a success is one of the hardest things from a professional and personal standpoint, and this is true whether you are a man or a woman.

There is no single entrepreneurial personality – as we have seen during the event, so there is no entrepreneurial gender.

What are your pieces of advice to women/girls who would like to turn their idea into a business?

Although it all starts with an idea, a great idea is not enough.

Timing is utmost important. You can have an amazing idea but be way too early and have to fight too hard and long to attract partners, investors or even employees. If you are too late i.e. if other companies already invested in a similar idea, where is the innovation?

Surrounding yourself with the right people is essential as well. Firstly, I have 2 amazingly skilled and inspiring co-founders. We challenge and complement each other really well. Then, we were lucky to have attracted investors that truly understood our project and share our vision. Finally, we have a team of 15 highly-skilled and motivated people. Together we achieve more.

Back up your theories and ideas with facts, numbers and concrete reports on the industry you want in, the market you want to target, the competition etc. Because you will be challenged, questioned and also because no one will invest in empty beliefs. Keep listening, even when you are hearing negative feedback. This will help you grow.

Brand yourself and your idea. You will be giving pitches non-stop throughout the 2 first years. Iterate quickly to improve yourself. And don’t be shy. Take risks! This is all about taking risks.

3 words to describe your journey so far?

Passion, Ambition, Team.

Elevator Pitch: Nowadays most of boat owners do not have the chance to live all year long on their boat: around 85% of them spend less than 3 weeks per year on it, which means that during the 330 days left, they are basically blind about what could happen (theft, broke, storm…).

When we know how much cost a boat, and the sentimental value that it represents for its owner, it’s a shame to note that there is nothing convenient to ensure the safety of the boat & the peace of mind of its owner.

And that’s what our first product, Connected Rope ®, fix: this innovative device ensures the boat safety for the owners and gives him the control & the peace of mind he deserves to fully live his passion.

Products/Services: Connected Rope ® is an innovative connected device that simply plugs on the boat’s mooring ropes.

Basically, this alert boat owners in case of troubles with the mooring ropes. Ropes knows everything and thanks to them, we can deliver you the information that something is going wrong. So that you can be proactive to protect your good. But you can also choose our “assistance” system: you stay home in peace & we take care of the problem.

Our app is available at anytime and from anywhere, via mobile, tablet or PC.

Business Model: We are going to distribute our product through B2B channels. You can rather choose the product “single” or you can choose the full package with the “assistance” service.

AccorHotels.com Launches MoodMatch Using Travelsify’s Technology

AccorHotels.com and Travelsify offer internet users a new way of finding the hotel that suits them best and announce the launch of the first search engine for travel experiences without preselecting a destination, MoodMatch.

Looking to indulge in a design, retro-ambience or gastronomic experience? Are you in a romantic, chilled out or party mood?

For anyone who has already had to rack their brains to choose a destination for their next weekend break, AccorHotels.com is offering MoodMatch, a completely new search experience based entirely on the moods and experiences of travelers.

“With the launch of MoodMatch, AccorHotels once again proves its capacity to innovate and adapt to the new ways of searching for hotels. We are glad that AccorHotels chose to implement Travelsify’s unique technology to personalize its offer according to travelers’ preferences,”– Bruno Chauvat, CEO at Travelsify.

To offer this inspirational search engine, AccorHotels.com is implementing the technology developed by Travelsify, a start-up that attended the first Vivatechnology trade show. As part of this first stage targeting internet users in France and the United Kingdom, Travelsify identified the DNA of around a thousand hotels from AccorHotels brands or independent hotels on AccorHotels.com, based on the analysis of all guest and expert comments posted about them online. In short, Travelsify Hotel DNA™ is determined by customers and for customers!

By selecting “Inspire Me” on the “Find your Hotel” tab on the site’s homepage, English and French-speaking internet users can let themselves be guided where the mood takes them, regardless of the destination, and to choose from a set of criteria broken down into four categories: in the mood for, preferred style, close to and anything else?. The search engine then displays a selection of hotels with the match percentage between the moods chosen by the user and the DNA of the corresponding hotel.

If users like what they see, all they have to do is to continue their journey is click on the photo of the hotel they have been matched with to access the hotel details and enter their dates to find out about prices and availability.

“Nowadays, travelers aspire to unique travel experiences; with this new, user-friendly and fun way of finding their next destination by initially being led by their emotions and where the mood takes them, AccorHotels.com is providing a ground-breaking way of searching, which goes far beyond finding a hotel solely based on destination. This one-of-a-kind search engine therefore complements the suite of services developed in recent months on our website including the City Guides, the AccorHotels Magazine, Restaurants by AccorHotels to inspire travelers and give them ever more relevant ideas and information about their next destinations,” said Romain Roulleau, Senior Vice President E-Commerce and Digital Services for AccorHotels.
